Well Woman Yoga draws on the ancient Indian health system of Ayurveda and offers selected yoga resources to promote mental and physical balance and a feeling of calm vitality. This is the key to a stress free and healthy new you. Through its known effects on the neuroendocrine system yoga helps stabilise hormonal levels and creates new foundations for emotional stability besides physical benefits including improved blood circulation, postural alignment. muscle tone and balance. Practices are easy to follow for women of all ages, from beginners to the most experienced yoga practitioners. All classes include relaxation, breathing practices and cultivate calm, balanced energy and vitality, detoxify the body and promote a sense of inner peace.
Birthlight uses specially adapted classic yoga practices to help all women to relax in the enjoyment of simple movements and breath awareness. Overall wellbeing is enhanced and specific conditions can be alleviated by stimulating the body’s own natural healing resources. Recent research shows that anxiety and back pain respond well to simple yoga exercise programmes and Well Woman Yoga practitioners are trained to tailor these yoga practices to meet individual needs.
Pregnancy Yoga:
The aim for the classes is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time, whilst improving your physical and emotional wellbeing, and increasing your chances of a positive birth experience. The postures will be very gentle, specifically designed so that you can attend throughout your pregnancy. Yoga-based exercises can have a huge effect on increasing the number of families who have a straightforward birth for their baby, and they can also be enjoyed by those planning for a caesarean birth.
For those of you who are already mothers, the class will be a time when you can relax, concentrate on the new baby, and think about your wishes for this birth. For 1st time mothers, there will be lots of practical tips, an opportunity to meet others and ask questions. Some words may be unfamiliar, please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything you are unsure of, no matter how small it might seem.
The main focus of these classes is breathing, gentle stretching, relaxation and positions for labour and birth. As experienced antenatal teachers we also cover topics such as optimal foetal positioning, coping during labour, waterbirth and many others.
Mum & Baby Postnatal Yoga:
Birthlight Postnatal Yoga uses original sets of yoga practices that are uniquely used to help you regain your core strength, emotional well-being and overall fitness after birth by restoring tone to the deep muscles of the pelvis, abdomen and lower back. Classes can be joined following your postnatal check (8 weeks) until your baby is walking. Within the class you will work towards 'closing' the body, re-knitting abdominal muscles and building strength and stamina. Mum & Baby Yoga sessions use Pranayama (yoga breathing) which calms the mind, induces better sleep and reduces postnatal fatigue. These Postnatal Yoga practices are suitable for women however their babies have been born. Attendees will create a new foundation for better physical and emotional well-being at the same time as being energised from within. Babies are included in these classes with 'active bonding' in age appropriate ways during the early weeks and months. It is a great way to gradually build a new foundation for better fitness at the same time as enjoying 1:1 time with your baby through play and rhymes. More dynamic yoga postures are incorporated to make a safe transition to general yoga or other forms of exercises with long term benefits for women's health.
Chair Yoga:
These online only classes are for those who are less mobile or who have limited floor space; there is no need to have done yoga before. Gentle yoga stretches seated on a chair or standing and holding on as necessary, breathing & relaxation techniques.
The aim for these classes is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time, whilst maintaining mobility, flexibility and improving both physical and emotional well being.
One to One Yoga sessions
Tailor-made sessions created for each individual. The classes include breathing practices, gentle yoga postures and relaxation all of which are beneficial in their own way. Whether you are trying to conceive, undertaking fertility treatment, currently pregnant, working on restoring balance during the menopause or just needing some personalised yoga support...the aim of these 1:1 sessions is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time, whilst also improving your physical and emotional well-being. A time for you away from the stresses and strains of day-to-day life.

I have attended this class during both my pregnancies. I found the yoga really helped with my SPD, and was the one chance each week for me to relax and concentrate on myself and my bump. The breathing exercises really helped my with my homebirths. I recommend this class to all my pregnant friends 🙂
I attended the Holistic Birth prep yoga class run by Cathy Welch as a second time mum to be. The class consists of yoga, breathing, and relaxation. Plus the added benefit of sharing experiences with other local women and making friends. The gentle yoga exercises kept me supple and Cathy was even able to adapt many of the exercises to allow me to complete them with very uncomfortable SPD which was great. The breathing and relaxation element of the class was a very enjoyable and provided a way to allow me to really prepare for the birth. All in all-… Read more »

I attended Carhy Welch’s yoga class from 17 weeks pregnant to delivery. I hadn’t done yoga before and it was my first pregnancy so I was unsure what to expect, but I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Cathy’s knowledgeable and gentle approach made me feel like I was in safe hands, and the group was very welcoming. Several of the women were attending the classes for their second or third time, and I’ll certainly plan to go again if I have another baby. The yoga exercises were great for helping to keep my body supple during pregnancy and… Read more »
My daughter and I loved yoga on zoom and even more in person. A lovely time every week for the two of us to focus on each other.
I do Cathy’s yoga online and it’s fabulous. Relaxing and re-energising. Working with your body whatever your abilities. If I lived in Wiltshire I would go to a face to face class. Book now you won’t regret it! Denise
I went to both Cathy’s pregnancy yoga and baby yoga. Pregnancy yoga was lovely and calming and useful for breathing practice and other positions. Baby yoga was a lot of fun and both baby and mum benefit.
Cathy is fantastic. I attended pregnancy yoga with both my pregnancies and she helped me maintain mobility despite many physical issues.
I also found the sessions relaxing and a quiet moment to just focus on me and my new baby in an otherwise hectic week.
I also made some great friends who 5 years down the line I still see regularly and my eldest has friends to play with she’s known since she was a bump!
Strongly recommend Cathy!
