About Julie Thompson – gentle, restorative yoga for all
Julie teaches a gentle form of hatha yoga called VINYASA KRAMA YOGA, which simply means gentle flowing movements towards classical yoga postures using the BREATH MINDFULLY.
This is an ideal yoga practice for all ages to help you with good health, flexibility, strength and balance, relaxation and help bring about a positive mindset.
Julie’s taught a wide variety of students including students with M.E, M.S and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, physical disability and depression.
Julie’s been teaching yoga for 10 years and practising yoga for 20 years. Julie trained with Stephen Brandon of Harmony School of Yoga, and was inspired by Steve’s passion for yoga as an holistic way to health and wellbeing. Julie chose this style of vinyasa krama yoga because of its traditional yoga lineage and logical progression.
After qualifying, Julie attended further courses and training with Srivarsa Ramaswami (a life-time student of the world renowned yoga teacher Krishnamacharya). She was also trained with Sribhashyam the son of Krishnamacharya - a precious and privileged opportunity.

Julie and I have been enjoying 1:1 yoga sessions for several years, having first met on several yoga study retreats. Each consultation I have had with her has been a wonderful experience, done in Julie’s quite unique style. I feel that she has the skill, training, compassion and connection to the Universe to tailor a session to whatever personal energy and needs a person has.
I love Julie’s class on Saturday in Millington Village Hall. A lovely friendly group. I have gone to yoga classes on and off for many years but Julie is so much more than a good teacher. The yoga is amazing. I wish I could join more of Julie’s classes.
Julie came to run a yoga session with our Beaver scouts. Engaging 35 children for an hour is hard but, Julie was fantastic at it. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the session. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Monday’s are my favourite day of the week since I have found Julie’s yoga class and I find it a great start to my week. I come home feeling refreshed and at one with myself and everything around me. Julie is very professional and such a lovely soul, and I love her lessons which include learning the sun salutations, breathing and meditation. Taking up this class was positively the best thing I have done and it’s helping me in many ways…I would definitely recommend Julie’s class xxx
Julie has played her harp for us during relaxations at some of our workshops at the Rising Dawn Sanctuary, Wholistic Centre which took us all to new levels of bliss!. I highly recommend her classes and booking her to play the harp at your events. She’s a wonderful artist too!
I nd tranquility, agility, wellbeing and spirituality at Julie’s yoga classes on Mondays at Guppys. I leave feeling rejuvenated in mind and body with the intention to care for both more in my daily life. Thanks Julie, I am a fan xx
I have attended Julie’s yoga class in Flamborough since it started almost a year ago and have enjoyed every class, always leaving more relaxed and in a far better frame of mind than when I went in. The classes are always friendly and Julie has a special way of making you feel more relaxed immediately she begins to speak. My breathing, posture and expecially my appreciation of life have all improved since my first meeting Julie and joining her in yoga.
I have just joined Chair Yoga run by Julie. After having had two hip replacements I am not so flexible. Julie has a quiet, relaxing voice and concentrates on “the breath” in her classes. You can feel the benefit of the exercises from the chair and the control of the breathing. I am a really bad sleeper and I’m hoping Julie will help in teaching me how to meditate.
Julie has been doing chair yoga with my group of lady’s in chantry court for the last 4 months everyone who comes along enjoys the yoga. we have people of all abilities and ages and has helped people with joint pain to people with anxiety. julie is very professional and accommodating with our group and looking forward to learning more in the new year
I’ve done yoga classes with Julie and found her yoga so relaxing and restorative. I’m now doing 1:1 with her at my home. I highly recommend this gentle form of yoga and working on a 1:1 basis with Julie because she addresses your individual needs.
I started doing yoga with Julie around two years ago on the recommendation of my Chiropractor as I was having problems with sciatica in my leg at the time and also wanted to improve my posture. I decided to have 1:1 sessions with Julie as I felt that this would be the best way for me to recover through the gentle style of yoga that Julie teaches and myself to keep well in the future. Julie was very understanding of my limitations and tailored the sessions accordingly so that I felt very safe and comfortable in her hands. Over time,… Read more »
I am so grateful to have 1to1 sessions with Julie, her gentle and positive attitude instil confidence. I am a complete beginner and Julie has worked at my own pace, gradually building on skills learnt in the previous session.
Her harp playing to aid relaxation at the end of the session is just magical. Highly recommended, thank you.
I started going to Julie’s yoga class a few months ago and it has been a marvellous experience. I have trouble sleeping, plus permanent damage to my feet. From the first class, I found it restful, soothing, calm and life-affirming. Julie is such a gentle and kind presence, with a mellifluous speaking and chanting voice. She is patient, explains and demonstrates everything very clearly and fully, and radiates a kind joy in her movements and demeanour. She is clear that people need to engage in the class in ways that suit the individual, rather than simply following her guidance. She… Read more »
I have given a review before, but having been going now for a while longer now, I wanted to say how much good Julie’s yoga class is continuing to do me. I find myself more centred and calm after a session and this can last for a while. There is a progression of moves and endurance, but never too much. Julie’s gentle voice and her movements take us through all the moves, and she always stresses that we must only do what we are comfortable with. I have problems with both feet, so sometimes can’t do all the positions. Julie’s… Read more »
Julie’s yoga class is one of the highlights of my week. The group is friendly and welcoming and Julie herself is a knowledgeable and inspiring teacher. The yoga she offers is gentle and nurturing, but stretching too, and I always feel uplifted when I leave one of her sessions.
